“Remember Nhu” Newsletter, Vol. 2, No. 3, fall 2005
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I hope you had a great summer! Our weather has turned and fall is here. The trees in our area are being transforming into beautiful colors. And, God continues to transform “Remember Nhu” and our growing team of partners.
Transforming Partnerships
Partnership support for “Remember Nhu” support is being transformed in tangible ways. The new dorm for Grace Ministry should be complete this month, allowing them to expand their work from 15 to 60 girls. “Remember Nhu” was allowed to play a major roll in this project. “Remember Nhu” also provided $5,000 to a ministry that rescues girls who wish to leave the sex trade in a major city in SE Asia. This money helped fund a very important fence around their property, where security is of utmost importance, so the fence is vital for the protection of the workers and children.
Two Upcoming Strategic Trips
November
First, Carl Ralston will be meeting with the Field Directors for the Christian and Missionary
Alliance (C&MA) for two countries in SE Asia. These will be very important meetings as the
purpose of them is to discuss potential partnerships in both of these countries between “Remember Nhu” and the C&MA. Laura Ralston will accompany Carl, along with Tom Orme
who serves with Ralph Trainer in establishing ministry partnerships for the C&MA. Also going is
Connie Collins, co-owner of Media Arts Group and the writer of the 7-10 minute version of the
documentary that Carl will use as part of his presentation at the C&MA “Getting It Done Asia”
(GIDA) conference on November 17. GIDA is a C&MA event that brings in missionaries from
all over Asia to explain the ministries the C&MA is doing in each of their regions. We will also
visit Asia’s Hope Children’s Home in a major SE Asian city. “Remember Nhu” helped this
home by purchasing a motorcycle, paying for construction of a structure for the workers and
paying for a needed water pump. We are also scheduled to meet a man involved with rescuing
girls out of the sx trade. This man is a veteran whose heart the Lord changed, and he has been
risking his life for many years to help those being exploited. We will be looking at how “Remember Nhu” can be of assistance in this ministry. This man will also be teaching us about
the Tilapia fish he raises, which feed those he rescues and helps fund his ministry.
December
Second, “Remember Nhu” will be taking about 40 people to SE Asia for a Vision Trip. A large
part of our group will be from an exciting ministry from Cuyahoga Valley Community Church in
NE Ohio called the “707,” about 1200 young adults from 18 to 30. Kasey, the group’s Missions
Pastor, will be leading them as they consider how God would use them to meet their physical,
emotional, educational and spiritual needs of children on the other side of the world. “707” will
also help supply much-needed bunk beds for Grace Ministries and see several models of
children’s homes. “Remember Nhu” board members will also be going to gain a deeper
understanding of what “Remember Nhu” can and should do. Other members are Pastor Josh of
Newburg Friends Church, Oregon (he and his wife are evaluating a call to start a children’s
home) and Stef May, a C&MA missions candidate who is evaluating a potential call to work with
the children in SE Asia. If you have interest in going to SE Asia with us, please feel free to send
me a note.
An Important book
A good book to read learn more about the plight of children in the sex trade is Terrify No More by Gary Haugen with Gregg Hunter (Word: January 7, 2005, ISBN: 0849918383). There was aDateline special on Gary Haugen and his efforts to help trafficked women.
With Jesus Love,
Carl Ralston, Founder and President, “Remember Nhu”
